Modern automated factories apply different mechanical processes depending on the bottles’ shapes, material properties, structural integrity, and desired throughput speed. Collins designs three primary classifications of unscramblers:
Ideal for cylindrical round plastic bottles (PET, HDPE, PP) and tin cans. The bulk containers are dumped onto a spinning, inclined dial plate. The centrifugal force throws the bottles to the outer periphery, where they pass through custom gate structures that detect orientation. Bottles facing the correct direction are guided down a chute, while reversed bottles are turned mechanically or blown back into the central hopper by air nozzles.
Best suited for asymmetrical, oval, square, or flat plastic bottles with handles. The bottles are carried on wide conveyor tracks, oriented using dual belt speeds, hook-gates, or camera-assisted robotic pickers, and then standing up onto the downstream transport line. This system avoids high centrifugal impact forces, drastically reducing scratches on delicate cosmetics or pharmaceutical containers.
Commonly used for semi-automatic feeding, glass containers, and accumulation buffer zones. With variable speed control systems, operators place glass bottles manually or via raw bulk crates, and the rotating table automatically arranges them into single-file layouts.
